About Extremity Ring Dosimeters from Radiation Detection Company

Reliably Measure Radiation Exposure to Extremities

We crafted our ring dosimeters to meet our customers’ needs for accurate and reliable radiation dose measurements, specifically for extremities such as hands and fingers. With resistance to water, chemicals, and temperature fluctuations, our extremity ring dosimeters are built to perform in demanding environments, making them a vital tool for medical professionals or anyone regularly handling radioactive materials.

We offer two options for extremity monitoring: a TLD ring or ORA™ OSL ring. Each ring allows multiple reporting options to accommodate your workplace’s unique needs, including quarterly, monthly, and custom wear periods.

Ring Dosimeters Make Extremity Monitoring Easy

Frequently Asked Questions

Curious About RDC’s Ring Dosimeters?

Find answers to common questions about our extremity monitoring options.

How does an OSL ring dosimeter work?

The ORA™ OSL ring dosimeter measures radiation exposure using beryllium oxide to store energy when exposed to radiation. The material traps electrons in higher energy states, then a light source stimulates the electrons to release the energy during processing and emit light. We measure the intensity of this light, which is proportional to the radiation dose, to determine the amount of exposure. OSL rings can be re-read multiple times for verification and archival purposes.

Our TLD ring dosimeter measures radiation exposure using thermoluminescent materials. When exposed to ionizing radiation, these materials trap electrons in an excited state. To measure the accumulated radiation dose, we heat your TLD ring in a specialized reader, releasing the trapped electrons and emitting light proportional to the radiation dose received. This process allows for precise measurement of radiation exposure to extremities.

We specifically engineered our ring dosimeters with small, ergonomic form factors for extremity monitoring. You can comfortably wear either badge on your fingers, ensuring precise radiation dose measurements for these sensitive areas. Both rings are lightweight and unobtrusive, making them ideal for professionals who need to monitor radiation exposure without hindering their daily tasks. Wear your ring badge in addition to a whole body dosimeter for peace of mind and enhanced safety.

After you return your ring dosimeters to RDC, we’ll process each badge using specialized readers and convert the data into a dose reading. From there, we’ll compile detailed reports, which will be made available online in your MyRadCare account within 10 business days of receipt of the badges.
